The former world and Olympic swimming champion Laure Manaudou has been accused of attempting to steal €200 (£160) of souvenirs from a gift shop at Disneyland Paris, according to reports in France.
Manaudou, who retired from the pool in 2013 and is the older sister of the men’s 50-metre freestyle winner at the London 2012 Olympics, Florent, was with a friend and her daughter at the theme park on the outskirts of Paris when she was arrested attempting to leave the store.
BFM TV reported that she was taken to a local police station and asked to explain the presence in her bag of gifts worth around €200, for which she did not have a receipt. Her friend was also found with goods worth around €300 on her person.
Manaudou was issued with a warning after Disneyland decided not to press charges. She later took to Twitter and Facebook to deny the allegations before removing the posts.
“The press are simply liars! I am disgusted, I cannot even spend time with my daughter without anyone bothering me, and they invent things about me,” she wrote.
