Louis van Gaal looking for perfection as Angel Di Maria nears Manchester United return
United have won six games in a row but the Dutchman is still looking for more from his troops as they prepare to face Aston Villa
Louis van Gaal has admitted he is still looking for the "perfect" performance from his Manchester United side.
United have won six games in a row to rise to third in the table, eight points behind leaders Chelsea and five behind second-placed Manchester City.
And the Dutchman revealed he has told former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson that the level of performance is just as important as getting results.
"When I speak with Sir Alex he says 'no problem, you have won', but for me it's also the performance that's important, because when you perform well you shall win more," said Van Gaal.
"I am still looking for a game that is closer to the perfect game than we have given until now.
"For example, the match against Hull was a great game, and that I have already said. I want to see more games like that. We dominated for 90 minutes. But too few games we are dominating for 90 minutes."

Angel Di Maria has resumed training after recovering from a hamstring injury, but Van Gaal said he was unsure whether the £59.7million record signing will start at Aston Villa tomorrow.
"Di Maria has trained this week with us, but it is also dependable how he compares with other players," said Van Gaal. "Because he is not match fit.
"I have said the same about Robin van Persie and Falcao, and Di Maria is no different.
Van Gaal added: "Maybe I shall select him [Di Maria] on the bench or maybe not. I have to make my decision but we have one more training session so we shall see."
Reflecting on United's 3-0 win over Liverpool last Sunday, Van Gaal said: "I don't think that one game had a big influence until now because, okay, the results are very good, but we can improve the performances as a team.
"I am always speaking about the team. And I think that the team can improve its self still more and I don't think that it was a great surprise that we won against Liverpool neither for the players."
On Radamel Falcao, who has not started a game for United since October, Van Gaal suggested the on-loan striker was running out of time to prove himself worthy of a permanent deal.
"He didn't play so much then you cannot see too much of a player and he didn't train so much because he was a lot of time injured,.so first you have to be fit," said Van Gaal.
"I have said that three weeks or a month ago, the first demand is fitness of a player. And, okay, we wait for the fitness of a player. Now he shows fitness on the training sessions, so maybe I shall select him, maybe for the bench or the line-up. Wait and see."
