Arsenal news and transfers: Gunners chase Roma youngster Antonio Sanabria as bargain buy?

Arsene Wenger has backed Alexis Sanchez to win his shoot-out with Sergio Aguero in the battle to prove who is the Premier League’s best player. Wenger says the pair have been arguably the best in the business this season. Aguero has scored 19 goals for Manchester City and Sanchez is just one behind him.
But all but four of Sanchez’s goals have come at the Emirates this season and Arsenal’s red-hot Chilean is desperate to put on a show in a big away game.

Gunners boss Wenger admits Arsenal’s away record against their top four rivals is not good enough and they have managed just one point from a possible 21 in recent visits to Manchester.

Van Dijk welcomes Arsenal interest

Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk has welcomed interest from Arsenal, describing reports linking him with a switch to the Emirates as 'great'.
The Scottish giants are understood to be holding out for a fee of around £10million, but Van Dijk has told Dutch publication De Telegraaf he is interested in speaking to the Gunners.
He said: "I am now 23 and have played at Willem II, FC Groningen and Celtic and am now linked to clubs like Arsenal. Isn't that great?
"There are a lot of clubs interested, but Celtic is holding onto a big transfer fee. The club is clear: they don’t want to let me go in the winter, because we’re playing for four trophies.

Bielik in the deep end

Krystian Bielik
Straight in: Wenger has confidence in his new signing
Arsene Wenger insists new £2m signing Krystian Bielik will go straight into Arsenal's first team squad.
Rookie midfielder Bielik, 17, is set to join the Gunners after undergoing a medical yesterday on Friday and terms have been agreed with Legia Warsaw.
Wenger says Bielik will go straight into his plans after Manchester City even though that may worry fans that Arsenal have signed another youngster rather than an established midfielder.
"He's a defensive midfielder, 6ft 2ins, he has a good energy level and technical level. Also, it's a gamble. But on what we saw it's worth taking" said Wenger.
"It's less than £2m. It's an awful lot of money for a player if he doesn't succeed. If he does succeed then it's cheap. Yes (he will go into first team squad)."

Wenger doesn't like the Ballon d'Or

Arsene Wenger would refuse to vote in the Ballon d'Or - as he is a fan of TEAM football.
The Arsenal manager slammed the annual award, which was won by Cristiano Ronaldo for a third time earlier this week, believing that the best teams should be credited and not the best individuals.
Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have shared the gong for the past seven years - and Wenger has now lost interest in voting.
Speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to the Etihad, where two teams prized for their team football in Manchester City and the Gunners will go head to head, Wenger admitted: "I'm a team fan," when asked about the Ballon d'Or.

Gunners after Roma youngster

Arsenal are set to swoop for out-of-favour Roma striker Antonio Sanabria, who is product of Barcelona's academy, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The Gunners are reportedly set to bid for the Paraguay Under-20 international, who has failed to make his way into the Roma team since arriving from the Catalan giants in the summer.
At just 18-years-old, Arsene Wenger is said to be looking at Sanabria as a name for the future.

Missing out on Arbeloa

Tough tackler: Chelsea and Jose Mourinho reportedly lead the way for his signature
Arsenal and Liverpool are set to lose out to Chelsea in the race to sign Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa, according to the Daily Express.
Both the Gunners and the Reds have reportedly been vying for his signature this transfer window, while it has been said that a relatively small fee will prize him away from the Bernabeu.
But the latest report suggests that Jose Mourinho is primed to bolster his defence with his signing, meaning the two Champions League chasers have missed out.

Brozovic interested in move

Marcelo Brozovic's agent has confirmed that his client is interested in a move to Arsenal.
Miroslav Bicanic claims that they are aware of the interest from different clubs - and 22-year-old would relish the chance to play at the Emirates Stadium.
Bicanic told Goal.com: "Of course Marcelo would be interested in playing in the Premier League with a club such as Arsenal.
"We hope he can change clubs and come to England as it is one of the best leagues in the world, but the decision depends on Dinamo.”

Getting stuck in: Edgar makes a tackle against Real Madrid last month
Arsenal are set to duel it out with Everton to secure Almeria winger Edgar, according to The Sun.
The Gunners reportedly lead the race for the £2million-rated 23-year-old, with the struggling La Liga club reportedly ready to sell their man in the near future.
Edgar started his career in the youth ranks of Tenerife before making the move to Real Madrid, where he spent two years. He has four goals in 14 appearances this season.

Juve clinging onto Pogba

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all readying bids for Paul Pogba, but Juventus are trying to get the midfielder to sign a new contract, according to the Daily Express.
The French international has been heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League, while Real Madrid have also reportedly shown interest in the past week.
However, Juve are hoping to keep hold of their prized asset by offering him a new deal - with a much larger buy-out clause.
His current deal is set to expire in 2019.
