Rosario Dawson, Sundance Champ 'Slow West' Among 2015 Cinequest Film Festival Lineup
The Cinequest Film Festival in Silicon Valley will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in style, with highlights including a "Future of Film" showcase, an evening with actress Rosario Dawson and a Media Legacy Award presentation to Indiewire's own Anne Thompson.
Kicking things off is the Opening Night Screening of "Batkid Begins,"
an inspirational documentary from Dana Nachman that chronicles how the simple wish of a young cancer patient shakes the City of San Francisco. The showing of the film, which earned great reviews out of its Slamdance premiere last month, will be followed by various festivities.
Cinequest houses major events throughout the festival. The "Picture the Possibilities Summit," brings together young artists and scientists from around the globe to share their work and their visions for the future. The Festival is also excited to introduce their "Future of Film" showcase, which reflects the fusion of creativity, filmmaking and technological innovation that characterizes Cinequest. In this special event, Barco Escape technologies unveils a thrilling new cinematic experience to audiences. It will be demonstrated in an "In Concert with Tony Bennett" presentation as well as in various shorts.
Anne Thompson joins the festival for a special screening of the Oscar-nominated sensation "Wild Tales," and is also recipient of the Media Legacy Award. The honor, which in the past has gone to Indiewire's Eric Kohn and Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times, recognizes journalists who connect audiences to cinematic art and innovation, and provide insight into the collaborative relationship between art and technology. Cinequest will also present a pair of Maverick Spirit Awards to actress Rosario Dawson and Oscar-nominated director John Boorman ("Deliverance") for their "bold, visionary and creative forces."
Several films on the festival circuit are set to screen, including newly-minted Sundance jury prize winner "Slow West" and Olivier Assayas' acclaimed Juliette Binoche-starrer "Clouds of Sils Maria." Actor Anton Yelchin will be on hand for the screening of the Closing Night Film "5 to 7."
The festival will run from February 24 to March 8. To see the complete lineup with ticket and pass sales information, visit www.cinequest.org.
