Anambra poll: We’ll not be used for any electoral fraud, Students in Anambra promise On November 8, 20173:41 pmIn NewsComments By Chimaobi Nwaiwu Over seven thousand youths in Anambra State under the aegis of Anambra Youths Movement, AYM, yesterday converge in Onitsha and agreed that they will not be used by any politician in the race for the Anambra State governorship election to commit electoral fraud. The youths mainly from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Uli, Federal Polytechnic Oko and Nwafor Orizu Collage of Education, Nsugbe, took the decision during the AYM, ‘Anambra State Electoral Congress/ Summit 2017’, held at Learning Field School Omogba, Onitsha North Anambra State. The youths who came with over 20 Mini and Costa busses for the Congress and Summit, with theme as, “To Restructure Our Electoral and Campaign Platform” said they have decided to say ‘No to political Mafia’, Cash and Carry Politics, Election Violence, and Candidate imposition. Apparently aware that they may not get the cooperation of the youths to work for them in the election, none of the candidates contesting the governorship election in the state came for the program, but the youths were not bothered as they claimed they wanted to educate themselves and not the politicians. One of the youths Chinemelu Okafor, and others from the four tertiary institutions, who took turns to speak during the occasion, expressed disappointment with politicians whom they accused of using them in the past and dumping them, and urged their colleagues to shun their advances on them for any hatchet jobs in the forthcoming Governorship election, by asking them to go and bring back their children overseas to do those dangerous election jobs. Earlier in his address, State Coordinator of AYM, Comrade Christian Nwakaeze said “as a neutral, independent, transparent and mouthpiece of the byouths and the state, we have taken the responsibility to challenging to let our elite and political class understand that we will no longer mortgage our future or be relegated to political slavery and thugs. We also want to remind the candidates especially those already in power that they should not enjoy our mandate selfishly without considering that government is nothing without the masses, they should not fail us. “We are aggrieved and enraged by the desperation of some of the candidates to acquire political position, which seem to be turning the state to political battle field and theatre of war, we want to warn that such will not be tolerated by the youths in the state, because we do not have another state. “Today they will tell us they will provide 1 million jobs for the youths but when they enter what we will get is increment in school fees, shops and market levy, transport fare and high unemployment, we are here to tell them that we will not accept deceit this time.”
