Mum killed in 'road rage attack': Woman dies from head injuries after falling from bonnet of moving car

A mum was killed in front of her children during a suspected road
rage attack by another woman driver last night.
Christie McHugh,
33, died instantly when she smashed her head on a zebra crossing light
just yards from her five-month-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
Christie
got into a row with a motorist and left her car before she ended up on
the bonnet of the other vehicle, officers believe.
Her husband
John was believed to be among witnesses who struggled to revive her as
police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene in Barnet, north London.
A
woman was arrested a few hours later after allegedly driving away
following the incident at 6.40pm.
One witness said Christie’s
children were just yards from the scene when the incident happened
though it was not clear if they were in her car.

Locals paid tribute to the Christie, a personal assistant, who was
said to be a much-loved member of the New Barnet community.
Paul
Lawrence, landlord of the Lord Kitchener pub just yards from the scene
on the East Barnet road paid tribute to the mother.
He said: “It
is such a sad and tragic loss, and my condolences go out to every one.
“She
was lovely. A brilliant bubbly person who with two lovely kids.”
Efkan
Kilic, 21 was working in New Barnet Fruit and Veg in East Barnet Road
at the time of the incident when he heard shouting.
“I think her
husband was there. Before the paramedics came someone was doing a heart
massage.”
Another witness said: “Christie’s children were in the
pub car park right next to the crossing when it happened.”
Police
arrested a woman at an address in Barnet in connection with the incident
and she had been bailed pending further investigation.

Mrs McHugh worked at Luxx Light Technology in High Street, High
Barnet as a personal assistant to director George Leonidou, who said the
office was in shock.
“We’re finding it very difficult to
function,” he said. “We are lost without her. Absolutely lost. She was a
fabulous person.
"The most conscientiousness worker I have ever
had and a friend.”
The victim has not yet been formally
identified but her family have been told. A post-mortem examination is
due to take place tomorrow.
A woman was arrested in Barnet in
connection with the death and released on bail until April.
A
Scotland Yard spokesman said: “At this early stage it appears she was a
driver involved in a dispute with another woman driver.
“She left
her vehicle and an incident occurred during which she was injured. Early
inquiries indicate that she was carried on the bonnet of the other car
and fell from the bonnet and was in collision with a Belisha beacon. The
vehicle drove away.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to come
