Construction work begins on Liverpool's £100million Anfield redevelopment
The redevelopment will eventually add 13,000 to the capacity with the new main stand set to be ready for the 2016/17 season
The £100million project will add 8,500 on to the Anfield capacity, tipping it over the 50,000 mark.
Among the redevelopments will be a brand new concourse outside the stadium, as well as 36 new corporate hospitality boxes.
It is the beginning of a wider redevelopment of Anfield, which will eventually add 13,000 to the stadium's capacity.
The stand is expected to be ready for the start of the 2016/17 season, and Reds Chief Executive Ian Ayre is pleased to see work underway.

He said: “We have the ability to get this thing started and get it built.
“That will be fantastic - but it will also come with its own challenges.
“We will have a huge building site and a huge construction project going on as we play every game through the remainder of this season and the season beyond.”
Upon confirming the beginning of the building process, Ayre said: "It is momentous, this is huge. The football club for many years has been looking for a solution and although it has been a long time coming, this is a landmark day.

"Today is that day where we have the certainty on planning, with a construction partner with funding. We are ready start the work."
The construction starts on the eve of Liverpool's do-or-die Champions League tie with Basel.
