Manchester City will be without star striker Sergio Aguero for a month following his knee ligament injury. Senior club sources believe the damage to knee ligaments suffered against Everton is not a serious injury and that talk of months on the sideline is wide of the mark.
But the league's leading marksman will still be unavailable for the crucial festive schedule.
City
beat Everton to close the gap between themselves and leaders Chelsea to
three points on Saturday where Aguero limped off in the opening
moments.

Feeling blue: Aguero stricken at the Etihad on Saturday
The news confirms fears that the Argentina striker will miss Wednesday’s Champions League do-or-die showdown with Roma.
Manuel
Pellegrini will also be without suspended Yaya Toure for the trip to
Italy, while skipper Vincent Kompany and playmaker David Silva are
battling to be fit for the decisive Group E showdown.
But the City boss
has called on his players to use the enforced loss of Aguero as a
chance to show they are not wholly reliant on the Argentina striker and
can win in adversity without him.
“Every big team must have important players like Sergio,” said Pellegrini.
“I
suppose Cristiano Ronaldo is very important for Real Madrid, Lionel
Messi is very important for Barcelona, but neither of those teams are
all about just one player.
“I don’t know if that is the correct
perception about us. It’s one thing that a player can be in a very good
moment, as Sergio was until this injury, but I don’t think he has
carried us.
“We have beaten a very difficult team like Everton
without Sergio, without Silva, without Kompany, without Stevan Jovetic
and with Edin Dzeko only able to play the last 25 minutes. In pictures: Manchester City vs Everton VIEW GALLERY“We would prefer to play with Sergio, but if he cannot
play we must try to continue the same way we have been playing in the
last week. Remember, last season we played a lot of games without Sergio
– and these are the same players and the same team.
“So I hope we can recover from this important injury but we have a good squad and we will see how we can do it.
“The
confidence is very high in this moment for the whole team, but the
injuries mean it is not the best way to approach such an important game
as Roma. But I have confidence in this team and I hope we will do it in
the same way that we have won these last five games.”
