Jack of all trades: Does Guardiola's genius know no bounds?
Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has been approached by Japanese rugby union coach Eddie Jones to help out with their World Cup preparations.
Japan
lost to Romania and Georgia in their autumn internationals, and have
only recorded one victory at the World Cup, a 52-8 demolition job of
Zimbabwe in 1991.
Jones says he has met with Guardiola in Munich
at a Bayern training session, and believes the similarities in the two
sports can assists his side when they touch down in England next year.
“I
watched Bayern train and had a really good meeting with the head coach
and I really think we can improve greatly with adjustments in the way we
train," he said. "He is the best soccer coach in the world and you
always want to learn from the best. In pictures: Manchester City vs Bayern Munich VIEW GALLERY
“Rugby and soccer are very similar in that you always want to move
the ball into space and Bayern Munich and his previous team Barcelona
played the most fantastic passing game you have ever seen. The
principles are exactly the same."
If Guardiola can transfer his
coaching wizardry from the football field to the rugby field, Japan will
surely add to their sole World Cup victory so far.
The former
Barcelona boss won three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues with
the Catalan giants. He romped to the Bundesliga title last season in his
first season at the Allianz Arena.
